We are a group of researchers from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.massey.ac.nz\/massey\/explore\/departments\/school-psychology\/school-psychology_home.cfm\">School of Psychology<\/a> at Massey University who do research concerned with affect\/emotion, human cognition, and the environment. We primarily use quantitative (and particularly experimental) methods in our research, and we have a strong interest in <a href=\"https:\/\/nzorn.netlify.com\/\">open science practices<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Our members include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.massey.ac.nz\/massey\/expertise\/profile.cfm?stref=908630\">Associate Professor Stephen Hill<\/a> &#8211; Embodied cognition; distributed cognition; environmental psychology; climate change. Stephen also directs the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.massey.ac.nz\/eecog\/\">Embodied\/Embedded Cognition Lab <\/a>at Massey University.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mattwilliams.netlify.com\/\">Dr Matt Williams<\/a> &#8211; Methodology; misinformation; climate change. Matt also leads a <a href=\"https:\/\/mattwilliams.netlify.com\/#lab\">lab <\/a>of students applying open science practices in psychological research.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ns-proxy1.massey.ac.nz\/massey\/expertise\/college-staff-lists\/college-of-humanities-and-social-sciences\/school-of-psychology-staff\/all-staff_home.cfm?stref=182912\">Dr Kealagh Robinson<\/a> \u2013 Emotion; emotion dysregulation; self-Injurious thoughts and behaviours; youth and emerging adults.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.massey.ac.nz\/massey\/expertise\/profile.cfm?stref=421222\">Dr Corinne Bareham-Waldock <\/a>&#8211; Consciousness, attention, disorders of consciousness, unilateral spatial neglect, neuroimaging, electroencephalography, brain Stimulation. <a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.com\/citations?user=3SenB8AAAAAJ&amp;hl=en\">Corinne\u2019s current research<\/a> is particularly interested in how the brain supports spatial attention function and how attention is modulated from the transition from wakefulness to sleep. Corinne is also a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ccc-lab.org\/lab-members.html\">collaborator<\/a> with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychol.cam.ac.uk\/consciousness-and-cognition-lab\">Cambridge Consciousness and Cognition Lab<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilanaseagervandyk.com\/\">Dr Ilana Seager van Dyk<\/a> \u2013 Emotion regulation; positive emotions; Rainbow\/LGBTQIA+ populations; children and adolescents; mental health. Ilana also directs the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pridelabnz.com\/\">Program for Research on Identity, Development, and Emotional wellbeing (PRIDE)<\/a>\u00a0at Massey University.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.massey.ac.nz\/massey\/expertise\/profile.cfm?stref=449112\">Dr Ross Hebden<\/a> &#8211; Social media and communications technology, drinking cultures, marketing, and gaming. Ross is also one of the principal investigators of the <a href=\"https:\/\/grailgamingresearch.wordpress.com\/\">GRAIL <\/a>gaming research and investigation laboratory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Teaching<\/h2>\n<p>ACE cluster members teach into a number of courses in the School of Psychology, and particularly into courses focused on research methods. Some of the courses co-ordinated by cluster members include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.massey.ac.nz\/massey\/learning\/programme-course\/course.cfm?course_code=175102\">175.102<\/a> Psychology as a Natural Science<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.massey.ac.nz\/massey\/learning\/programme-course\/course.cfm?course_code=175203\">175.203<\/a> Introduction to Psychological Research<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.massey.ac.nz\/massey\/learning\/programme-course\/course.cfm?course_code=175205\">175.205<\/a> Brain and Behaviour<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.massey.ac.nz\/massey\/learning\/programme-course\/course.cfm?course_code=175318\">175.318 <\/a>Experimental Psychology<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.massey.ac.nz\/massey\/learning\/programme-course\/course.cfm?course_code=175746\">175.746<\/a> Psychological Research: Quantitative Data Analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>175.102 and 175.203 are essentially compulsory for all undergraduate psychology students at Massey, as is 175.738 for postgraduate psychology students. In addition to these compulsory courses, we also suggest that all undergraduate students planning to progress to a postgraduate degree also take 175.303: The Practice of Psychological Research. Those keen to pursue postgraduate projects involving <em>experimental<\/em> methods should also consider 175.318. Finally, we encourage all postgraduate students hoping to conduct quantitative studies to take 175.746.<\/p>\n<h2>Seminar series<\/h2>\n<p>We operate an occasional research seminar conducted via Zoom.
