If you work in the food industry, you will have stumbled across this term quite a bit recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because<strong> flexitarians outnumber vegetarians, pescatarians and vegans<\/strong>, they drive the food industry to offer more plant-based products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#4c125a\">Flexitarians are flexible about when they eat meat<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>A flexitarian is <strong>someone who is actively reducing, or has actively reduced, the amount of animal flesh they consume, but is not eliminating it completely from their diet<\/strong>. How often they consume meat can vary from having a \u201cmeatless Monday\u201d to having meat only once a month. Flexitarians put emphasis on eating more vegetables, plant-based meat replacements, nuts, or legumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The term \u201cflexitarian\u201d was first used in the early 1990s. It is a mashup up the words \u201cflexible\u201d and \u201cvegetarian\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"252\" height=\"295\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.massey.ac.nz\/futurefoodscatalyst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/80\/2021\/07\/20210716_Image_Flexitarians_Petra.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-570\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#4c125a\">Motivations are unique to a person<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>As is the case so often, the reasons why flexitarians want to eat less meat differ from person to person.
