Massey University Blues Award
For athletes
Massey University Blues Awards are presented to students in recognition of their outstanding achievements in both sport and academic studies.
Sport Criteria for a Massey University Blue
- The qualifying period for sporting achievements is from 1 August (last year) to 31 July (current year).
- Excellence of play and sportsmanship.
- Exceptional merit or honour in the particular sport concerned, as displayed in open competition at regional, national or international events during the qualifying period. This standard is set by the relevant NSO for each sport.
Academic Criteria for a Massey University Blue
- The academic qualifying period for a Blue is from 1 July (previous year) – 30 June (current year).
- All applicants must be enrolled and pursuing a qualification at Massey University or completing a degree or diploma during the academic qualifying period.
- All applicants must have gained a successful pass in a minimum of 45 credits over the period of the qualifying academic year, or be completing their qualification.
Massey University Sporting Excellence Award
For non-athletes such as officials, coaches
This award was introduced in 2018 (and has been renamed from the Sport Achievement Award) to recognise Massey students who have performed exceptionally, however are not eligible for a University Blue as an individual athlete. Eligible applicants include coaches and officials who meet the same academic and sporting criteria as for a Blue, when applied to their circumstances (for example an official who has represented New Zealand umpiring internationally). The nomination process is the same as for a Blue, complete the relevant online form to nominate yourself or someone else.
Distance Sportsman and Distance Sportswoman of the Year Award
Massey University presents a Distance Sportsman and Distance Sportswoman of the Year Award. These awards go to the Blues recipients who, in the opinion of the panel, have performed most outstandingly at their sport and met the academic criteria during the relevant year. Athletes do not nominate for this award, all Blues recipients studying via distance are eligible for selection.
Campus Sportsman and Campus Sportswoman of the Year
Massey University presents a Campus Sportsman and Campus Sportswoman of the Year Award. These awards go to the Blues recipients who, in the opinion of the panel, have performed most outstandingly at their sport and met the academic criteria during the relevant year. Athletes do not nominate for this award, all Blues recipients studying internally on the Auckland, Palmerston North or Wellington Campuses are eligible for selection.
Supreme Award
Massey University will present an overall Supreme Award winner. The four winners of the above awards (Distance and Campus Sportsman and Sportswoman) will be considered for the award. This award is presented to the student-athlete who, in the opinion of the panel, has performed most outstandingly in their sport and met the academic criteria during the relevant year. Only the four winners are considered for this award.
