Massey University International Sport Travel Fund Application

Massey University places great importance on achievements both in and out of lecture theatres. The International Sport Travel Fund provides financial assistance of up to $500 to eligible students who have gained official selection to represent their country or to officiate at an international sporting event.

Please read the information below to determine your eligibility before applying.

CLOSING DATES:
Semester One Funding Round closes on the first day of Semester One: for sports events held after the first day of Semester One and before the first day of Semester Two.

Semester Two Funding Round closes on the first day of Semester Two: for sports events held after the first day of Semester Two and before the first day of Summer School.

Summer School Funding Round closes on the first day of Summer School: for sports events held after the first day of Summer School and before the first day of Semester One the following year.

Fund Criteria

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for consideration applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Currently enrolled in at least 60 credits in the academic year.
2. Passed all courses in their most recent semester of study (unless this is their first semester).
3. Have gained formal selection to represent their country or be officiating at an international sporting event.

FUNDING & SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Applicants may only receive funding once in an academic year, and twice during their entire academic study at Massey University.

2. Applications must include:
– Completed application form
– Evidence of formal selection to compete in, or officiate at, the international sporting event.
– Evidence of event associated expenses and include other sources of funding.

3. Applications are assessed at the discretion of the Selection Committee with the following aspects considered: academic grades, sporting achievements and potential, contribution to Massey and the wider community, membership and engagement with Massey programmes (such as the Academy of Sport).

4. The Selection Committee will make inquiries as required regarding your application and achievements.

5. The amount of funding awarded up to $500 is at the discretion of the Selection Committee.

6. In order to receive payment, the applicant must provide the following documents as part of their post-event report:
– Completed post-event report.
– Attached at least one photo of themselves at the event that Massey may use in publications.
– Evidence of publicly acknowledging Massey for funding assistance.
– Receipts for associated trip expenses.
– Bank account number and proof of being the account holder.
– Applicants may be contacted with additional questions for use in a Massey article.

7. The funding committee reserve the right to alter the criteria under exceptional circumstances.

SELECTION COMMITTEE
Made up of three members of Massey Staff (or their nominees):
– Sport Coordinator (Manawatū based)
– High Performance Coordinator (Manawatū based)
– High Performance Coordinator (Auckland based)

The Process

1.     Applicants apply in the relevant funding round.
2.     Eligible applications are considered by the Selection Committee.
3.     Applicants are informed of the outcome, and if successful the amount of funding awarded.
4.     Applicants attend and compete at the event.
5.     Following the event, the applicant submits their post-event report form and required documents.
6.     Payment of the funds to the applicant’s bank account.

Major Sporting Achievements

Please list your sporting achievements over the last three years, ranking your highest achievements first. Please include dates for any major achievements or representation at a regional or higher level.

Event Information

Please provide details of the sports event/s for which you have been selected. 

Intended Budget for Event Related Costs

Please outline below the anticipated / budgeted costs for each relevant expense related to your trip. Please indicate if any expenses are partially or fully funded by your sporting body or other funders.

Referees

Please provide details of two NZ-based referees who can be contacted if necessary to comment on your achievements.

Supporting Documents

In order for your application to be considered you are also required to submit the following supporting documents before the funding round closing date. Please upload these below. If you have issues uploading your files, or have additional files, please email these to hpc@massey.ac.nz

1. Evidence of formal selection to represent your country or to officiate at the event in question (if you are awaiting final selection, please still submit your application by the closing date – you will be able to provide evidence of team selection at a later date)

2. Evidence of associated expenses (for example: quotes for flights, letter from sporting body with indication of trip costs) and any additional funding from other sources.
