New Stream login page – have your say

June 30, 2011

Since Stream was introduced the login page (http://stream.massey.ac.nz) has undergone a number of transformations.  The latest incarnation has been the source of much discussion.  One of the criticisms of the page is that it is too wordy and important information, such as when Stream will be down for maintenance, is hard to find.  Also, given that Stream is used by the vast majority of staff and students a lot of the information on the page is unnecessary e.g. how to login, and in some cases sends the wrong message, i.e. ‘having problems’.  In an attempt to simplify the page and to draw users’ attention to important notices (aka ‘events’) such as maintenance windows, a new look Stream login page has been designed.  The images below illustrate the new page design – click on the image to make it bigger.  Image 1 is the draft of the new login page without any ‘event’ notifications. Image 2 is the login page with notification of a Stream ‘event’, in this case the maintenance window.  The ‘event’ messages will appear at least 5 days before the ‘event’ and will be removed within a day of the ‘event’ concluding.

While the new design is still in draft form the intention is to have an updated login page for the start of semester two, 2011.  Rather than just replace the current login page with the proposed new design, we are interested to hear your opinion.  If it turns out that most people don’t like the new design, then the reasons for this will be collated and an alternative will be worked on.  Have your say at http://www.massey.ac.nz/?s18b41611g
