Stream update – 17 Feb

A minor Stream update will occur Thursday 17 February. Along with the usual security patches and minor plugin updates there are a few new features coming:
- Easy way to embed Mediasite videos
- Restrictions are now visible on the course home page
- Restrictions now default to hidden
Easy way to embed Mediasite videos
Link Mediasite videos will now display automatically as an embedded video. No need to add the embed code manually. This has several benefits, first the video player is responsive and will grow to full the available width, secondly, underneath the video a message will be displayed directing the viewer to open the video in a new window if it does not display correctly (this is a workaround to the single-sign-on issue).
Restrictions are now visible on the course home page
For various reasons, shared courses often contain resources and activities that are restricted to a particular cohort. Previously these were “hidden” behind the red padlock icon which makes it laborious to visually identify which items are display to different groups. They will now be displayed on the course home page e.g.:

Restrictions now default to hidden
To avoid showing students extraneous activities to students, the recommended setting is to set the restriction to Hidden entirely if user does not meet this condition. This is now the default setting for all new restrictions.
