{"id":134,"date":"2020-04-30T20:33:47","date_gmt":"2020-04-30T20:33:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.massey.ac.nz\/teaurangahau\/?page_id=134"},"modified":"2020-09-29T01:20:08","modified_gmt":"2020-09-29T01:20:08","slug":"hitoria-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.massey.ac.nz\/teaurangahau\/about-te-au-rangahau\/ko-wai-matau-about-us\/hitoria-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Hitoria | History"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Te Au Rangahau (TAR) was born in 2003, when a collective of M\u0101ori staff within Massey\u2019s College of Business (Te Rangiwhenua) united under one kaupapa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim was to enhance the wairua and wawata of M\u0101ori across three Massey campuses (in Manawat\u016b, Wellington and Albany) by combining their skills, knowledge and networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This small but passionate group strived to establish a centre to conduct, contribute and disseminate knowledge that was relevant to M\u0101ori business and M\u0101ori in organisational settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence, the seed was sown. Te Au Rangahau, The Pathway to M\u0101ori Research in Business, was established and provided a base for staff, students and stakeholders in \u2018M\u0101ori business\u2019 to make a contribution, first and foremost to M\u0101ori society but also to Massey University, and the business world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through TAR, new relationships between M\u0101ori staff and other research centres were successfully brokered, including those with the Federation of M\u0101ori Authorities, Poutama Trust, and marae committees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before long, TAR expanded its role to support and mentor M\u0101ori staff in their career development, facilitate postgraduate research that impacted M\u0101ori, and hold te reo writing workshops for Massey staff and students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2013, Massey University hosted Te Pae Roa 2040: Three decades of M\u0101ori Development 1984-2013. This was a nationally-significant M\u0101ori conference aimed at considering pathways for M\u0101ori development into the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Summarising the conference, Sir Mason Durie suggested that the future success of M\u0101ori depends on developing alliances with like-minded people who share a sense of purpose while maintaining their identity and autonomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference spurred a profound shift in our vision. The decision was made to expand our focus beyond research to become a specialist centre that incorporates issues not only pertinent to M\u0101ori business but also to M\u0101ori leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, as a specialist centre, TAR engages in teaching, learning and community engagement initiatives as well as research. This broader focus has created greater opportunities for us to contribute to M\u0101ori advancement; through the M\u0101ori economy, M\u0101ori business in the broadest sense, and M\u0101ori leadership in a variety of organisational settings and contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex
