Part one has focused on\u00a0<em>Stuff<\/em>\u00a0and its newspapers, and how we have portrayed M\u0101ori.\u00a0Business reporter Anuja Nadkarni analysed how we have reported on the M\u0101ori economy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Economist and researcher Matt Roskruge said the media has been quick to write about the failures of M\u0101ori.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lack of relationship and understanding between the mainstream media and M\u0101ori business structures has meant journalists have felt more confident reporting on issues that have been through the courts, Roskruge said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iwi also faced greater scrutiny because of the perception they were getting \u201chandouts\u201d from Crown settlements, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFarmers rely heavily on infrastructure subsidisation, yet M\u0101ori funding structures are seen as handouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Waitangi Tribunal has done a lot of good but has also perpetuated some opinions around any subsidisation, which is a shame.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stuff.co.nz\/business\/123252175\/our-truth-t-mtou-pono-how-our-business-reporting-served-and-protected-european-settler-interests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read the full story on Stuff<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Truth, T\u0101 M\u0101tou Pono is a\u00a0Stuff\u00a0project investigating the history of racism.
