Study support workshops
March 4, 2013
This week, Massey’s CTLs are running free workshops on time management, reading strategies, and more.
Online and Manawatu
There are two online StudyUp sessions this week.
On Tuesday and Thursday, “Hit the Ground Running” will talk about the first days and weeks of study. At this stage of the semester, it’s especially important to put together a study timetable and get a head start on your initial assignments, and this workshop tells you how.
On Wednesday and Friday, “Death by Textbook” discusses ways to approach your reading, and tactics for reading dense academic material.
The sessions are free to all students and you can participate from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. Get all the details here: StudyUp.
Also online this Thursday is a postgraduate seminar by Dr. Jonathan Godfrey on the correct use of statistics when writing your thesis. See the full programme here: Online and Manawatu Postgraduate Workshops.
Albany
At Albany campus this week, there are free workshops for undergraduate, postgraduate, and distance students.
On Tuesday and Wednesday there will be postgraduate workshops on “Reading and Critiquing Journal Articles.” Journal articles represent the coal-face of research, and the ability to effectively apply and analyse those articles is an essential part of postgraduate study.
On Wednesday there will be a lunchtime session on paragraph writing; on Saturday there’s a full-day session on all aspects of academic writing (for distance students).
Some of these sessions require registration, so be sure to check the full Albany workshop programme for details.
Wellington
Wellington campus ran sessions today on note-taking and paragraph writing.
Tomorrow there is a session on time management. It’s never to early to start planning your time, and planning for your first assignments. See the Wellington workshop programme for times and locations.
