Thu completed her PhD examination with minor emendations this week. Her study was “The degradation of aflatoxin M1 in skim milk”. Her study involved using UV light and cold plasma. She is now heading back home to Vietnam and plans to head to the University of Guelph for a Post Doc position.

Update 2021
This has been the most successful year for our team with 6 PhD students completing one waiting for her exam and another handing in her thesis by the end of the year.
Congratulations to you all for your achievements this year. This has been a record year for publications for our group. We thought last year was good but this year has been even better.

One of our graduates Emmanuel Kyere was able to attend graduation this year. Emmanuel is now with his family in Chicago and has applied for a Post Doc position at Michigan State University. We wish him all the best for the future.

Looking forward to 2022, we have funding applications to continue with Emmanuel’s work and to extend some of our work on EPS. We expect to be able to take on some more international students and there is the possibility of two NZ students joining the team. Watch this space.

Our team specializes in research in biofilms in the food industry but we also have projects in other aspects of food microbiolgy.
We are based at Massey University in Palmerston North New Zealand. The team is run by Steve Flint and Jon Palmer and is home to around 10 PhD students.
