Farah represented our team at the New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology conference in Dunedin 2023. Farah presented both a poster and oral presentation on her work to understand citrinin production from Monascus sp. in red fermented rice.
John Brooks (Centre) was the recipient of the prestigious J. C. Andrews Award at the New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology Conference in Dunedin 2023. This is the highest award for this society that recognizes outstanding contributions to the food industry and the society. John established biofilm research at Massey University.
Hanasni is the latest student to join our research team. Hansani come from Sri Lanka and has experience in working with Campylobacter, which she hopes to extend with her PhD study into biofilms of Campylobacter and novel methods to prevent or treat biofilms.
We welcome a new PhD student, Yining to our team. Yining, also known as Gloria, will be leading our research on Cold Plasma treatment of biofilms with her initial focus on Listeria monocytogenes. Her arrival is excellent timing as we commission our new high voltage di-electric barrier cold plasma unit.
We wish Emmanuel all the best for his new job as Food Safety and Quality manager at Cargill in New York. An excellent career move for Emmanuel. Nice to see our graduates doing well in the world.
Thu completed her PhD examination with minor emendations this week. Her study was “The degradation of aflatoxin M1 in skim milk”. Her study involved using UV light and cold plasma. She is now heading back home to Vietnam and plans to head to the University of Guelph for a Post Doc position.
