August is Research Month – showcasing support for researchers at Massey University

Research Month highlights some of the ways the Provost’s teams support Research at Massey University, Te mahi rangahau i Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa.
Staff and postgraduates are welcome to attend any of the sessions during the month. There are also sessions for undergraduates and the wider community. Further information about sessions and how to register can be found on the Library website or via session links in this post.
Library Workshops for Researchers Series, Altmetrics and ORCID
The Library is running online sessions from its ever-popular Library Workshops for Researchers. These 50-minute sessions each cover Searching & Managing Research Literature, Raising your Researcher Profile, Journal Publishing, Research Data Management, and an Introduction to Open Access for Staff.
Would you like to know more about altmetrics – alternative metrics that cover measurement of publication impact via channels such as social media and news media? Join Liz Smee from Digital Science for webinars on Altmetric Explorer for Attention Seekers and Altmetric Explorer for Industry & Community Impact.
Not sure what a unique ORCID identifier is or what the benefits of having one are? Dr Alex Freemantle, ORCID Lead at the Royal Society Te Apārangi will outline the benefits in a webinar.
Explore support for researchers and introductions to Elements, research impact and navigating Research Master
Join staff from Research Operations in one of these online sessions.
Researcher Development provides a handy introduction to the resources on the OneMassey intranet that have been developed to help you as a researcher.
Introduction to Elements introduces Symplectic Elements, the system we use at Massey to capture and record research outputs, impact and activities.
The Fundamentals of Research Impact webinar will define and explain what research impact is, discuss the research impact logic model, important principles of doing research impact, and direct you to a suite of training and support resources.
A session on Navigating Research Master (RME) will provide an overview of this integrated online system to manage funded research projects, research contracts and project budgets. This session will be especially useful for those who lead and manage research projects or might do so in the near future.
Three Minute Thesis Competition
Every year doctoral students take on the challenge to showcase their research to the wider Massey community as part of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. This year the Manawatū Library will host an in-person practice session to enable doctoral students to practice and refine their presentations.
Showcasing Tāmiro beyond Massey University Library
Massey staff and students can join this online session about the Library’s digital platform Tāmiro which showcases taonga from Massey University Library and the University Archives. This session will also be open to the public.
Explore the rare items from the Library’s collection in Manawatū
A rare opportunity to take a behind the scenes look at the New Zealand Research Collection, known as the Bagnall Collection in the Manawatū Campus Library. Some of its rare items will be on display, along with two manuscripts dating from the fifteenth century and the early 1600s which have found a home in the collection. Event details can be found here.
