Tāmiro changes – showcasing selected taonga & treasures at Massey University

Tāmiro home page

We’ve made some changes to Tāmiro recently as a result of user experience (UX) testing. Thank you to all who participated and supported this work.

  • Image tags video user guide (7 minutes) We invite you to contribute to Tāmiro, and share with us your knowledge of people, buildings, events at Massey University. One way to do this is by adding tags to images. Happy tagging!

In our UX testing, we found that people often missed the search box and the Collections area. They didn’t know where to start, and didn’t scroll right down to the bottom of the page so also missed Browse by Location.

We improved these areas to create a refreshed home page (in the image above). Library and Archives staff made these changes in response to the UX testing:

  1. Quick links at the Top

We’ve added in some links at the top for easy access – browse content, and use filters to explore:

  1. Browse by Type

An updated browse feature in the centre of the page allows browsing by type:
Collections, Documents, Images, Map or Plans, Objects, Publications, Video or Show All.

  1. Search Box

By popular demand, the Search box now appears larger and more visible.

  1. Welcome

A bicultural welcome has been added for new users, acknowledging Massey University’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

  1. Browse by Collection

This new feature is added for ease of access to popular collections. If you mouse over a collection, there’s a bit of information that can help to decide what may be of most interest.

One of the benefits of situating these collections on our home page, is that they appear in Google search results so that collections are more visible for quicker and easier access.

  1. Recently added items

This widget has been enhanced by centring the content, and making it bigger, enhancing access for mobile users.

In addition to these changes, work has been completed to improve: the order of search results to most relevant at the top; the search performance; speed of the site; site map added for search engine optimisation; and fuzzy social media icons were updated.

Thanks again to all who supported and contributed to this work. Whanaungatanga: We work in partnership to achieve more than we could do on our own. We hope that you enjoy using Tāmiro. If you have any questions or feedback, please contact the Library team. Kia ora! Thank you!
