Search tips for new-look Discover and EBSCOhost databases

January 13, 2025

Discover and EBSCOhost databases have a new look. Here are some quick tips for searching…

  • Type in your title or topic keywords .
  • Use the filters under the search box to limit your results. The frequently used ones are right there, or look at what else is available under ‘all filters’. Remember to click on apply at the bottom, and to clear the filters when you no longer want them – particularly if you’re starting a new search.
  • Use advanced search for multiple search boxes, so you can expand your keywords – put synonyms in the same box with OR between them.
  • You can save, cite, export to referencing software (under the cite button), add to project (your custom storage space), share or download any items. Look for the three dots on the results screen or click on the title to see the options.
  • The left-hand menu has My dashboard with anything you’ve saved, recently searched, borrowed, requested, etc. There are also some handy links to Library help, web pages and supplementary search tools (including Google Scholar linked to Massey for more full text).
  • Use Access options to find the full text of online material.
  • Click on Place request for pick-up or delivery of a print book. For delivery, please add your address to the comments box.
  • The URL in your address bar for any search results or individual items is stable – you can copy and paste it and get back to the results/item at any time. No more looking around for permalinks!
