Improvements to Discover

February 5, 2025

Discover, the Library’s search tool, has had a glow up. The new interface provides a more modern and intuitive user experience.

Easier to create and share links

No more copying and pasting permalinks! You can now copy and paste URLs from your browser address bar, just like every other website.

Much longer timeout

Discover has a much longer timeout. If you get interrupted, Discover will stay active in your browser tab for 20 hours before logging you out.

Filtering your results

  • You can now select the Scholarly (peer reviewed) articles filter, and limit to a particular date range, before running your initial search.
  • Click All filters on the search results page to choose the rest of your filters –they are in a pop-out menu on the right, making the interface much less cluttered.
  • There is a Clear All option in the new filters menu, so you no longer have to turn off filters one by one.
  • The Clear all filters button also appears if you get zero search results, in case you forget to clear your filters.

Straightforward access to MyLibrary

All your MyLibrary essentials are under My dashboard on the left side of Discover.

  • Under Requests & loans, view the books you’ve got on hold and checked out, and renew them if they’re due.
  • Use Projects to create folders for each of your classes, assignments, or projects, then save relevant book and article search results so you can easily find them again later.

Enhanced requesting

  • You can now request a specific volume from multi-volume books in the Library’s print collection.
  • For our EBSCO ebooks with simultaneous user limits, you can see how many copies are available in the book’s detailed record.
  • If you download an EBSCO ebook to Adobe Digital Editions, the loan will appear in your Requests & loans folder, where you can also see when the loan will expire.

New integrations

Discover is now integrated with  Library FAQs. For example, if you search justice of the peace and click on the Related resources button at the bottom right, you’ll see a link to our FAQ about how to find a JP at Massey.
