2026 read and publish agreements

January 15, 2026

The read and publish agreements with major publishers are now in place for 2026. These waive the article processing charge (APC) to make articles open access for many of the publishers’ journals.

A summary of the major new agreements is below. We recommend you also look carefully at the suggestions and details of each publisher on read and publish agreements.

Gold refers to journals where all articles are open access. Hybrid journals have some subscription/paywalled articles and some open access articles. Caps are a limit on the number of articles waived under the agreements, and may be reached well before the end of the year.

Elsevier (Science Direct)

  • Uncapped hybrid publishing excluding gold. The 15% discount on gold continues.
  • Publishing for Cell Press and Lancet titles
  • All newly launched Elsevier-owned hybrid journals will automatically be included in the agreement for reading and publishing.

Springer Nature

  • Uncapped hybrid (previously capped)
  • Sufficient coverage for gold publishing (no gold in previous agreement)

Taylor & Francis

  • Uncapped hybrid publishing (previously capped)
  • Uncapped gold publishing (no gold included in previous agreement)

Wiley

  • Uncapped hybrid publishing
  • Sufficient allocation (cap) for gold publishing
  • 20% discount on any APCs paid for outside the agreement (increase from 10% in current agreement)
