Library Out Loud

AI tools are now included and updated regularly in our Discover library search, and in many other library databases. We list the major features on AI in article databases.

The most recent AI features added to Discover and individual EBSCO databases are:

AI-Assisted Search

This sits below the Discover search box, normally turned off. If you turn it on, you can enter a question or sentence, rather than the keywords we usually recommend for a topic search. Discover turns that into an advanced keyword search, giving a different set of results. It can work well for some topics, and is definitely worth a try.

AI Ask

This lets you ask a PDF article for a summary, the methodology used, conclusions, or any other questions. The answers are based only on the information in the document. It appears on many but not all articles in Discover.

Other AI features and databases

• AI Conversational Search is currently only available in Business Source Ultimate, though we expect it to be rolled out to Discover and other EBSCO databases in the future. You question/sentence search query displays results in two panels (a summary with key insights, and a short list of supporting articles) and you can ask follow-up questions.
• More information on AI features in Discover and EBSCO databases is on AI at EBSCO. Note that these features may not all be enabled at Massey.
• Other databases with various AI features include Ebook Central, JSTOR, Westlaw New Zealand, SciFinder, Oxford English Dictionary and others.
• We list most of the AI features available on AI in article databases.

If you use these AI features in the library databases, check your course to see whether you need to acknowledge your use.
