Library Out Loud

Massey’s newly-created role of Copyright and Open Access Advisor will be taken up in early April by Bruce White, who is currently a Science Librarian at Manawatū Library.

Copyright is particularly important for Massey in relation to both teaching and research and within different environments such as Stream.  Open access publishing has been a major development in research communication over the past 20 years and holds  considerable promise as a means of taking Massey’s research message to the world.

Bruce’s engagement with electronic scholarly communication goes back to the beginning of his work at Massey in the 1980s. He is known to academic staff through the Library-based Knowledge Management  in Research training programme and more recently through Making Your Research Count.

He is the author of a number of published articles and conference papers on matters relating to libraries and scholarly communication, as well as a short history of the Massey distance library service. He has made all of his publications  accessible through Massey Research Online and other channels and is a keen but realistic advocate of the social and individual benefits of openness as a publishing strategy.

Working as a librarian has also given him an awareness of the potential of the Library’s licensed resources to provide the best quality information to Massey students.

The Library wishes Bruce well in his new role, and we look forward to working with him in these developing areas.
