Kupu o te wiki 30-Haratua-17

The kupu this week is: whio (fee-oar) Blue Duck

These little cuties (of which we are lucky enough to have some in the Esplanade in Palmerston North) are named after the male’s call. They generally reside in the high country waterways of Aotearoa. Not townie manu these ones.  Whio is also the maori word for whistle.

Kupu o te wiki is brought to you by the Library’s Māori staff.
