A page from the digitised manuscript

The Library’s medieval (15th century) French manuscript was displayed at an event last week, as the first item to be digitised in the plan to make Massey University’s rare and unique items available digitally for all to use and enjoy.

The manuscript contains the anonymous glossed version of Le Livre de Boece de Consolacion, a French translation of the Consolatio Philosophiae of Boethius. Due to its age and value the original is rarely displayed or handled. Professor Glynnis Cropp, who worked with the manuscript for many years and who published in 2006 a critical edition of the Livre de Boece, spoke about the manuscript, its history and its significance to scholarship.
