This is a very basic introductory post on institutional repositories and how they facilitate Open Access (OA).   What is an institutional repository? An institutional repository (IR) is basically an online collection of an institution’s research. It may contain theses, articles, conference papers, creative works, grey literature and more. Wikipedia defines an institutional repository as “an online archive for collecting, preserving, and disseminating digital copies of the intellectual output of an institution, particularly a research institution” (Institutional repository, 2014).   Why they were set up?
